In the beginning was the Word…..

In the beginning was the Word…..

In the beginning was the Word … and … In Him was life and the life was the light of all.

John 1

So…

I have an easter egg sitting on my desk. Untouched. It’s been there for weeks. I know…

As part of our staff devotions a teacher was speaking about how the resurrection of Jesus has given us an abundance of life and the ability to live in the goodness of God now and forever. His resurrection washes away the brokenness and mistakes of our life and restores our relationship with Him, now and forever. Now, and forever.

The teacher then encouraged us to symbolically swap a sin or difficulty or mess we were dealing with (written on paper) for an Easter Egg as the symbol of this renewal and grace that Jesus has given us by his actions on the cross. However, she then said we must keep it as a reminder on our desk and not eat it until Easter!

I don’t know about you, but chocolate in front of me for four weeks not allowed to be consumed – that ‘s not okay!

Regardless, I am so thankful for the constant reminder of the new life we have because of God’s love; not just the love to send his son to live and die for us so we can know him but the love to send his son and show us how he intended for us to live.

John chapter 1 it says that the Word of God was there from the beginning and in Jesus the Word came to life. Interestingly, the meaning of this word, Word, is the embodiment of an idea. Hence, Jesus is the very living idea of God.

In Jesus we see the very intention of how God designed us to live, in the beginning. So, the grace, love, forgiveness, passionate protection, care for all, unconditional help (I could go on…) we see in Jesus is how God intended it to be for all. And, in his resurrection, we see that he gives us the same ability to conquer the consequence of our sin and live this way too.

This is why Easter is my favourite time of year. This is why I am thankful for the painful reminder on my desk. This is why I am excited to invite you to celebrate with us next week for Easter Alive as we share even more of this Word with our students and community next week.

If you can make the time to join us for one or all of services please do.

Good Tidings,

Jonno
