The Stage 6 Studies of Religion students recently attended an enlightening excursion to St Carthege's Cathedral in Lismore with Mr Drew and Mr Tom Davies. We were warmly welcomed and guided by Father Bing Monteagudo. It was a superb opportunity for the students to develop their knowledge of the rich history of the greater Catholic community of the Northern Rivers. They were able to experience the beauty of the Cathedral and the spiritual meaning of the many architectural dimensions, symbols, sacred spaces and art works within it. They particularly enjoyed learning about the first two bishops of St Carthege's being buried in the Cathedral. Time for quiet contemplation of God's presence in our lives is scarce in our busy 21st Century lives, but the students were able to appreciate how the Cathedral is a space to withdraw and be still. They had the chance to practise an Ignatian reflection called "The Examen" as they evaluated the significance of such personal devotions in Christianity, which is an aspect of the SoR course. ...
